Reef Check EcoDiver (4 days)

Help save our coral reefs by taking the Reef Check Eco-Diver Course!

Reef Check has received international environmental awards for its work, and is the United Nations' official community-based reef monitoring programme.

By joining our Reef Check monitoring team, you can help monitor and track the world’s reefs.  As you may know, our reefs are in a state of crisis.  Reefs today look vastly different than they did only 30 years ago:  Big fish are scarce; some marine creatures have disappeared completely; and over 45% of the world’s reefs are severely threatened by human activities including overfishing, destructive fishing, pollution and global warming.  People have caused these problems and we can provide the solutions!  By becoming a certified Reef Check diver, you can help nurse our reefs back to health by participating in monitoring surveys and conservation.

If you have ever wondered what it is that marine biologists do while underwater, this is your chance to find out!

This course is designed to teach you everything you need to know to conduct full scale Reef Check surveys.  You will learn all about the globally standardised Reef Check methodology as well as how to identify key indicator fish, invertebrates and substrates selected by Reef Check for global monitoring and conservation of coral reefs!  Sounds like a lot?  It is!  But all those who have taken the course have fully enjoyed every last bit.  This course will allow you to join the Reef Check monitoring team and to survey the Perhentian Islands!

Watercolours is one of Malaysia’s first Reef Check Training Facilities.  Please help us gather this important data to document potential decline of our local reefs and the need for stronger management policies. Please contact us to find out more!
